Sawubona, fam! Writing changed my life. It connected me with a long lost roommate after twenty-plus years, nurturing a friendship. A random twitter lady with a PhD sent me money thanks to writing on astrology. I still haven’t met her, but was moved by how moved she was. Writing from a coffeeshop in Brazil connected me with someone making a “country on the internet.” Writing has shown me how sloppy my thinking can be. How what I thought was clear may be clear to me, but not to you. Writing has strengthened relationships, made others disappear, and worked as a sort of ambivalence-antibiotic. Writing changed my life and it continues to do so. Now, I’m writing as a mode of presence, practicing mindfulness, going deeper into the work I’m being called to do. I’m finding a small group of friends who are writing with me. I invite you to “write the good life” with us! Us? Who is us? And what is “writing the good life?” I’m getting there… On new year’s day, I went to an event to reflect on the old and call in the new. We paired off to share our journaling. This soon-to-not-be-a-stranger had the same style notebook as me. Same writing as me. Did we just become friends? I think so! Both of our highlights from 2023 came out as lists. Not of events. Nor places. But lists of people. Such is the power of writing in bringing people together. It turns out this guy is a rock star, playing 1,000 shows over the past 20 years. A philosopher. A college professor who teaches writing, workshopping wisdom. What the heck is wisdom workshopping? I’m still not totally sure, but I know it involves a process of becoming, and pokes right at this juicy question of “who are we?” Writing helps cultivate wisdom. Somehow I found myself lucky enough to collaborate with him on the upcoming Writing The Good Life course. I won’t promise that you’ll meet your new best friend there. But there’s a chance. And if you’re looking for continuing education credits for work to justify showing up, we’ve got those too. If you feel called, let’s write the good life, together. If you’re not ready to write just yet but are curious, I invite you to meet Sean. I haven’t met anyone quite like him. Seriously, who the heck says “looking forward to listening” in their sign off? And he means it! Peace, |
